Even the box is beautiful!

This oracle deck gave me the oooh's and ahhh's before I even opened the box. Victoria Moseley says this deck began with her designing a business card for her clairvoyant readings. The images are antique Victorian in style but there's more...each card is layered with symbols that will be sure to enhance your intuition.

The boxed set comes with 52 illustrated cards and 80 page guidebook. There are 5 illustrated spreads in the guidebook and instructions on how you can use your deck. I love the practical approach presented by Victoria Moseley.

The card backs are as lovely as the images on the front of each card. Reversals are up to the reader but are really not needed with this deck. The cards are high quality with a silky feel that makes shuffling a soothing ritual. A keyword is printed on the front of each card which corresponds to the keyword descriptions in the guidebook. There is nothing harsh, garish or obscene in this deck-it can be used to read for any client.

I have to say that this is one of the nicest "Vintage Lady" decks that I have seen. The images are clear yet they convey mystery. It's an interesting effect that I think you will like.

This deck is perfect for those who love Vintage, those who like gentle images and those who are as intrigued by ephemera as I am.

Beautiful and wise. Just like a woman.

This is probably going to become my favorite oracle deck. I resonate with the images, it is as if they bring out my more feminine energy that is not always apparent. This is a very soft yet powerful deck.
Paris, beautiful gardens, antiques, corsets, tea, sitting at your vanity applying rouge. Wandering through the forest accompanied by a bird on your shoulder or a butterfly beckoning you to a small pond. The nurturing energy of mother, the genuine honesty from a friend who was your best interests in mind. The woman who has been to hell and came back stronger, more sure of herself yet still has compassion and hope
The artwork/images are so beautiful and the messages are simple which I feel allow your intuition to blossom more, especially if you are new to reading any type of cards. Cardstock is good, has a matte finish which, I feel, add to the vintage look of the cards. Backs are non reversible which isn't a big deal since it's not a tarot deck, although I prefer that style. Backs are sepia brown tone with scroll designs, flowers, and the middle features a color photo of a woman's face, Pretty and fit the theme of the deck.
The book is charming and I appreciate the author sharing the story of how the deck came to be. Even though I am pagan, I love that it doesn't have crystals, chakras, pentagrams, cauldrons or any other new age or witchy stuff in it. Sometime you want to read for others who are not comfortable or familiar with those symbols and that energy may affect your ability to help them. Or maybe you just want to display a card in your cubicle at work, in your bedroom if you live with family, without making people question it.

From Abundance to Wisdom

I confess that the art in this deck is not the kind I would normally be drawn to. Having said that, I also confess that I am drawn into many of the images – for example:

Protection (a “statuesque warrior goddess stands on the threshold between two worlds. . . Two regal swans, symbolizing the element of light, stand proudly at Protection’s feet.”)

Shadow Self (“Night has fallen and a young girl pauses beneath a stone portal, perhaps seeking guidance from the raven above.”)

Wisdom (“The last rays of the setting sun fall on this portrayal of mythic Athena, the Greek goddess of wisdom, and her wise protector, the Little Owl.”)

Some of the images, I also have to confess, strike me as just plain silly. It’s a personal thing, I know, and has nothing to do with the quality or talent obviously possessed by the artist.

There is a definite Victorian “feel” to these cards, and those who love that period will certainly notice and enjoy.

The more I wander through this deck, the more I understand its appeal. I am looking forward to doing one of the spreads provided in the guidebook.

Disgraceful

I was hoping for protips on being classy, but this is just a slut shaming tirade. The writing is tedious. I already bought the book; surely it is obvious I am not invested in being a tramp? Yet I'm still reading chapters about why it's a bad idea.

What I find most obnoxious is that this isn't an etiquette book but an excuse to rant about the author's hatred/insecurity regarding "stupid girls." It's entirely possible to establish the value of poise and class without dragging other women through the mud. The true foundation of courtesy is to respect others, and there's none of that here.

Kindle formatting is sloppy to boot.

Irritating by the End

Containing some good tips such as read, set goals, and smile, the author was constantly bashing things like The Hills and push up bras then recommending them in the next chapter. Her unending criticism of people whom she refers to as "the stupids" irritated me to no ends. While I am not a fan of MTV, hot pink lip gloss, or chasing after guys I still find calling someone stupid is not the way to go. What bothered me the most was instead of focusing on kindness and compassion for others, just as the late Ms. Hepburn was famous for, the author was more focused on her write-ups on people, mostly based on their clothes and not their hearts. She failed to realize that you shouldn't always judge a girl by her skirt length.

Please, do NOT waste your money.

I had such high hopes for this book. I was so excited when it came in the mail today that I'm over halfway done with it. I'm 20 years old and am more than capable of behaving like a lady, but I was curious to see how the author worked the ideals of Audrey Hepburn's by-gone era into modern literature.

What I got instead was complete and utter garbage.

Instead of focusing on Hepburn (which I am sure is the reason over half of the people purchased this book), the author instead does a good deal of name-dropping, talking about her own life, calling other women stupid (this book's first chapter is entitled Stupid Girls), and generally making fun of/bashing anybody who DARES to have a different opinion than herself. The author is so much more Hilton than Hepburn that it's almost UNFATHOMABLE.

It's also distinctly against any sort of progressive ideals/feminism and directly states that if you DARE to call a man who gives you his phone number, you are stalking him and he is a "poor boy" who NEEDS to run away from you. She also idolizes men pursuing women in cases where the women repeatedly rejected him, and then finally gave in to his incessant demands for dates. This has double standard written all over it, and it's sickening.

If I had a daughter, I would rather her bedazzle her cell phone with pink rhinestones than read this garbage any day of the week. If I could give it less than one star, believe me, I would.

R.B. Khanna , a former Indian Army officer of the Corps of Engineers, is erstwhile Professor of the Indian Institute of Planning and Management (IIPM) Jaipur, India. He has also been Professor at the Institute of Certified Management Accountants of India (ICMAI), Jaipur; Visiting Faculty in the Department of Management Studies, IIT Roorkee; and Professor and Dean (Academics) at the Institute of Management Studies, Roorkee. A fellow of the Institute of Engineers (India) and an alumnus of Defence Services Staff College, Col. Khanna has also served as Director, Financial Planning at Army Headquarters, New Delhi; Senior Professor and Head of Computers Department at College of Military Engineering, Pune; and Senior Professor and Head of Operations Research at College of Defence Management, Secunderabad. Col. Khanna is the author of Quantitative Techniques for Managerial Decisions and Project Management and Production and Operations Management . Howard B. Wigglebottom Listens to His Heart is a children's picturebook that embodies several invaluable messages for young people. When young rabbit Howard B. Wigglebottom is mocked by his peers for dancing, he decides he will never dance again. But when he confides his sadness to his grandfather, his grandfather reminds him that he comes from a long line of Wigglebottoms who love to dance. Howard's grandfather teaches him that he should dance because it's fun and he loves it first and foremost! A list of suggestions for lessons or reflection and the end of the book go over the central themes of feeling something one's heart, the value of confiding in a trusted older person, issues that can affect self-esteem, the value of trying something different for the fun of it, and the benefit of connecting with one's roots and family legacy. Perhaps the most important message is to "Be proud of who you are!" Highly recommended for public library collections as well as for children's bookshelves.

You feel so good inside

About the Author

Professor Sam Zhang Shanyong, better known as Sam Zhang, is a tenured full professor at the School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. Professor Zhang serves as editor-in-chief for Nanoscience and Nanotechnology Letters (USA) and principal editor for the Journal of Materials Research (USA). He has worked on processing and characterization of nanocomposite thin films and coatings for 20 years and has authored/co-authored more than 260 peer-reviewed international journal papers with an average of more than 12 citations per paper, 7 books, 20 book chapters, and guest-edited more than 20 journal volumes. His book on Materials Characterization Techniques has been adopted as a textbook by one European and eight American universities. The book was also translated into Chinese, published by China Scientific Press, and was used as textbook in many Chinese universities.

Professor Dongliang Zhao is the chief engineer at Central Iron and Steel Research Institute (CISRI, Beijing, China) since 2009 and the director of CISRI’s Institute of Functional Materials. CISRI plays a leading role in China’s R&D in superalloys. Professor Zhao’s research interests include computational material science, magnetic materials, energy materials, and superalloys. He has been the leading principal investigator of or participated in more than 20 Chinese national research projects. Professor Zhao has published 40 journal papers and was granted six patents. In 2003, Professor Zhao was conferred the title of "Beijing Outstanding Young Engineer" by Beijing City Government. In 2006, he was recognized by the State Department as one of the National Star Researchers and in 2008, he was conferred the title of "National Defense Science and Technology Innovation leader."

All you need to pass the shelf

A 25 year old medical student comes into your clinic complaining of anxiety for the past week. He tells you he has an upcoming shelf exam in psychiatry and "I haven't studied." Further history reveals that his clinical rotation did not expose him to all aspects of psychiatry, and there are major gaps in his knowledge base. His medical history is unremarkable other than a healing bruise on his right temple from wrestling a PCP-intoxicated schizophrenic to the ground. He reports some difficulty falling asleep but notes that "reading case files helps." When asked how his rotation has gone so far, the student says "fine, but I think one of the attendings has it out for me." When asked if he had any reason to believe the attending was conspiring against him, the student responds "dude, it's an expression. I meant he doesn't like me." Student denies anhedonia, depressed mood, or audio or visual hallucinations. Utox is negative.

What treatment approach will be most effective in this patient?

A. psychodynamic psychotherapy to find the source of his anxiety
B. cognitive-behavioral therapy to overcome his fear of PCP-intoxicated schizophrenics
C. risperidone for his persecutory delusion
D. full leather restraints to assist study discipline

Great review book! Very helpful on psychiatry clerkship preparing for the shelf exam. Case scenarios are similar to shelf exam style. Explanations to questions are thorough and well written. The broad range of topics is very complete, from adult to pediatric psychiatry, to pharm management and legal and ethical issues and the two complete practice exams are very useful.

Lange Q&A Psychiatry, 10th EditionSo far I have completed the first 2 Chap and believe that this is a great resource. The questions are interesting, well written, and incorporate concepts from other fields of medicine to make the clinical scenarios realistic. I recommend Lange Q&A for learning about Psychiatry,and preparing for the NBME shelf exam. Other students that took the shelf before me recommended this book in addition to World and rather than "other" popular Psych question books.

Addendum:
After completing the NBME Psych Shelf exam I believe this book was instrumental in doing well (contrary to popular belief Psych Shelf is not easy).

Deliciously shocking...and motivating.

This book blew my mind… and was a real boot in the pants for me. Beyond educating me about the fascinating—and it turns out ancient—history of “editorial cartooning.” It inspired me to be less afraid to push the envelope with my own work. Really a unique book, with deliciously shocking visuals and commentary. If you’re interesting in how artists have spanked the status quo over the centuries, and continue to do so today, I would highly recommend Mr. Fish’s book.

WARNING! Graphic Content is a worthy effort and certainly worthy of reading by anyone with a keen interest in art and society

In his [new] book, [Mr. Fish] describes cartoonists a '...a pest tasked with the mosquito-like responsibility of disrupting complacency...'.

This isn't the first book that's written about the power of cartoons. In 2013, we reviewed Victor Navasky's The Art of Controversy, a review of controversial cartoons through the centuries. But the approach and scope of Warning are novel. Instead of using a chronological order, the author jumps back and forth through time. This approach is not only refreshing, it also allows the author more freedom to compare cartoons and artworks from different time periods. Mr Fish has also broadened the scope by broadening the definition of what he considers to be a political cartoon. His selection includes paintings, sculptures, poetry and even performance art.

Cartoons have, since their inception, been considered a form of 'low art' (if they were considered art at all), but in my opinion Mr. Fish is quite correct to put them on par with other art that makes a social statement. What the book succeeds in doing is to make us reflect on the nature of art, and the role of art in society. Mr. Fish focuses on the ability of art to upset the status quo, to mobilize people and to inspire change.

In a way, Warning is a guided tour through a museum full of unexpected surprises, its pages filled with art you had not seen before, and familiar art seen in a new light. Structured like a play with different acts, the book is interspersed with conversations with people such as Noam Chomsky and Art Spiegelman.

[WARNING! Graphic Content] is a worthy effort and certainly worthy of reading by anyone with a keen interest in art and society. There are not that many books that focus on political cartoons, and even less that do this as eloquently as Warning. Plus, you'll find out why New Yorker cartoons suck.

A book like no other I've seen

A really outstanding piece of work. Part art, part political history, but ultimately call to arms for anyone interested in changing society to reflect the concerns of the many. A deep thinker with a literary talent that surprised me. Mr Fish is a voice and an artist sorely needed, and what a talent!. Courageous and discourteous to all the right people. And damn funny too.
