Alba Cappellieri is an architect and design critic. She is associate professor of jewelry design and is director of the jewelry design specialization course at the Milan Polytechnic.

the best book I've read on jewelry!

I love jewelry and I use to read many books on this topic. For this reason I loved this book and it was my Christmas gift for many friends around the world. What I appreciated are both the contents and the pictures. In my experience this is the first book to present jewelry from different points of view with such wonderful illustration and an impressive critical essay. Generally jewelry is divided in types: magnificent jewelry,fine jewelry,fashion jewelry, art jewelry, design jewelry.... and for each one you will find several books. Here the author has chosen to describe the several types of jewelry according to the principles of creativity and innovation, beauty and quality. This is the only book where you can find masterpieces from both Cartier and Chanel,Picasso and Frank Gehry, new materials and new technologies, old masters and emerging talents.... the selection is really fantastic and unique!

I was planning on buying this book based on the description. Fortunately, saw it in a bookstore first. There is just not enough of anything, and not organized enough to be useful as an historical perspective. There are many better books out there then this if you are building up a library on this subject.

Beautiful overview

I love the jewelry world and this book offers a really broad overview not only for artistic jewels but also for those tied to the world of traditional jewelry. The beauty and innovation are the central theme, this allows the author to mix so many different genres with great skill, to create an unique and original selection, not flattened on the usual gender distinctions. It is really nice to find the big jewellery makers next to young and emerging artists: this opens a chink, even for the less experienced, to the knowledge and understanding of a very complex and variegated world as that of the jewel.
